Watertown, New York — [July 19, 2021] — EZ STAK today introduced an all-new folding shelving unit, bringing a rugged design, a lifetime warranty, and easy installation to a booming delivery industry.  

Built with the heavy-duty aluminum and steel materials EZ STAK is known for, the new two-shelf unit is available in 20 different sizes for medium- and high-roof Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster vans. Earlier this year, EZ STAK trialed and tested the product with a large delivery company, and the feedback from drivers was very positive.

“Drivers said the shelves work great for large and small boxes and that it’s great to have the room between the shelves for them to move,” said the company’s operations manager. “They also said the shelves fold very well and fit very well inside the van.”

EZ STAK’s engineers put about six months of work into the shelving unit, making sure the final product could easily withstand daily operations.

“Plus, because it comes unassembled, we also put a lot of thought into making it quick to put together and simple to install using existing mounting holes in the vehicles’ walls,” says Keith Omamalin, an EZ STAK automotive engineer. “We’re really proud of it.”

Here are some of the aspects to consider in your trailer buying to-do list.

One of the most important aspects of buying an enclosed trailer is deciding what it will be used for. The trailer’s future applications will determine the size and customizations of the unit(s) you need. A good example would be deciding between trailer types for a portable office versus storing materials. Using the trailer for materials storage would likely need minimal customization versus a mobile office. For the latter, you would be looking at electrical configurations, such as outlets or air conditioning, as well as other workspace elements, such as lockers, closets, drawers, workbenches, shelving, and bin units.

There are two major types of construction materials for enclosed trailers – steel and aluminum. Although less expensive, steel is heavier than aluminum, less stain-resistant, harder to maintain, and has a lower average lifetime for a trailer. Aluminum is lighter and usually stronger than steel when constructed well. It has the added benefit of greater rust resistance, lower maintenance costs, and a longer lifespan.

For the interiors, your options are traditionally wood and aluminum construction. Wood is heavier than aluminum, although, like steel, it is less expensive. Aluminum is stronger, more flexible for construction applications, easier to maintain, and is much lighter, upwards of 40% lighter.

Choosing the type and quantity of axels when buying your enclosed trailer depends on what you are willing to spend, the height of the items you plan on putting inside, and what terrain you will traverse. While tandem (dual) axel trailers will generally be more expensive than single axel ones, the multiple axels also offer greater stability to carry heavier loads.

There are two major axle designs – leaf springs, and torsion axles. Leaf springs use metal springs, which are larger and heavier, while torsion axles use lighter rubber springs. For lighter loads or smaller trips, torsion axles are better as they are lightweight and less expensive to build. Larger loads or tougher driving terrain would benefit from the sturdier construction of leaf spring axles.

The basis of all purchases is the sizing of the enclosed trailers. The most common widths are five, six, seven, and eight and a half feet, with trailer lengths resting between eight and thirty-two feet. To provide some perspective, a custom vaccine administration station would likely be eight and a half feet wide and twenty to thirty feet long. On the other hand, for a one-person portable site office, you may not need anything more than six to eight feet in width and length.

Every trailer can haul a maximum amount of weight, determined by its size and construction, including the frame, axels, tires, and springs. Refer to the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which indicates the weight of the trailer plus the maximum load that it can carry.  If you already own the vehicle that you will use with the utility trailer, it is important to purchase an enclosed cargo trailer that is in line with the towing capacity of your vehicle.

Rugged aluminum drawers can be easily removed and taken to the jobsite.

Watertown, New York — March 11, 2021 — EZ STAK today added an all-new line of heavy-duty removable drawers to its series of aluminum service body storage systems. Delivering the lightweight yet robust design EZ STAK is known for, each of these rugged drawers can be quickly taken out and brought to the worksite. This not only helps with efficiency on the job, but also makes installation easier.

“We initially custom-made these for a client, but we quickly realized that they would likely appeal to a lot of people because they’re so durable and so easy to take out,” says Calvin Lawrenson, EZ STAK’s business development coordinator. “There’s no more back and forth to the truck with these — you can take all of your tools with you.”    

As with most of EZ STAK’s drawer solutions, these are made with 10-gauge aluminum and come equipped with 500-pound-capacity slides, adjustable tops to fit the truck compartment, and built-in risers. Each drawer also has a one-handed latch for easy opening and closing, as well as a secure lock that engages once the drawer is slammed shut. Plus, if the truck compartment has a step, these drawers can be built with a notch cut-out to maximize space and make installation a lot easier.

EZ STAK currently offers the heavy-duty removable drawers in nine sizes, but its design team can also deliver a custom solution. And just like all of the company’s drawer systems, these come with a lifetime warranty on all manufactured parts.

“We think these will be a gamechanger for quite a few customers,” says Lawrenson. “We kept hearing that one pain point for some was just how difficult it is to take out drawers if they want to bring a bunch of tools with them. Well, with these, now they can. And because the drawers are lightweight and tough, they’re easy to remove and you don’t have to worry about putting them through a lot of abuse.”

Mobile COVID-19 testing and vaccination stations ready for deployment

Los Angeles, California — [February 17, 2021] — As the war against COVID-19 rages on, EZ STAK and Wellness Systems, Inc. today announced the launch of what is believed to be the pandemic’s first mobile testing and vaccination station. Designed for rapid and secure deployment, the U.S.-built Charlie Station can also be modified for non-COVID uses and is eligible for FEMA funding.

 

“Nobody’s really designed anything like Charlie Station,” says Wellness Systems CFO Gian Starita. “It’s very unique. People are trying to adapt other equipment to fit the role of testing and vaccination, but Charlie Station is actually designed for this.”

 

The compact unit has a steel chassis and can be opened to provide two socially distant testing or vaccination stations. It also comes fully equipped with stainless steel, medical-grade countertop and robust aluminum cabinetry on the inside and outside that can be easily closed with one hand and securely locked. Plus, there are plugs for laptops, printers, medical equipment, and an optional fridge that are all powered by a 110-volt shore power supply or a 12-volt battery that provides up to 10 hours of electricity.

 

“It has an amazing LED lighting system on the inside” says EZ STAK VP of Sales Shane Lawrenson. “And it’s built for inclement weather. You can lock the whole thing down and leave it out in the heat of California or in the freezing cold and snow of the northeast. It’s robust. It’s not going to degrade.”

 

While Charlie Station has been designed for testing and vaccination, it can be easily adapted to a wide variety of other functions as well. After a natural disaster, for example, it could be used in the field to deliver critical relief supplies. Or in a city with a large homeless population, it could be deployed to offer mobile medical care.    

 

The other piece of good news is that Charlie Station is eligible for FEMA funding in some jurisdictions. At the end of January, FEMA announced that it was earmarking nearly $1 billion to support the vaccination effort in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Funding to other jurisdictions could follow.

 

“It’s been a real symbiotic process working with EZ STAK on this,” says Starita. “Not just because they have such a strong manufacturing capability, but they’re a joy to work with and they see the vision here. Charlie Station is going to help a lot of people during and after the pandemic, so we can’t wait to get it out there.”
